Sacred Light

May 28, 2024

I have had the opportunity while traveling to visit many churches, minsters and cathedrals. These buildings, whether humble or imposing, almost all contain some wonderful light. Sometimes it is the quality of the stained glass but often it is the age of the stone and wood which absorbs or reflects the quality of the light which lasts in my memory or makes me want to click the shutter on the camera.

Most of the photographs in this short You Tube sequence have been taken in Europe, and many in the UK, over a period of about five years. It has been an occasional obsession when I find myself in an impressive building, usually on a sunny day, rather than a deliberate sequence. Nonetheless light is light and the calm peacefulness of these surroundings, whether or not you are a believer, the feeling of many generations sitting behind you and the desire for quiet contemplation that can measure out our successes and failures and our future directions, are an important part of our mental health and wellbeing. I hope you enjoy this small contemplation.
