Improve your photography

Photography is a complex hobby and making good, meaningful pictures takes more than just clicking a button. Moving to the next level can be a challenge without guidance and sound critical faculty. This is designed to provide both.

This six session course for a maximum of five people, guided by Nigel Walker, is more than just a technical course – although technical issues will inevitably raise their heads.

Each session starts with an individual appraisal – in the first instance of your own work – with constructive commentary by other participants. Each session will be three hours long and end with a choice of one of three assignments to complete. These will be designed to take you out of your comfort zone and ensure you have to practice an additional skill or think differently.

Participants will meet a fortnight later and show work from their assignment. They will be asked to appraise the assignment and identify what they learned as well as any difficulties they encountered.

By the end of the six sessions (which can be at mutually agreed times after the first meeting) each participant will have a plan to move forward based on their new insights and learning and there will be an opportunity for an individual follow-up session with Nigel at a future point.

The sessions will take place in Nigel’s studio at the Ropewalk Gallery in Barton-on-Humber on Sundays from 10.00am unless otherwise agreed. All participants must have a digital camera and some experience as well as a basic knowledge of how their camera works. This is not a beginners course. Participants will preferably have access to Powerpoint in order to prepare their presentations at each session. Nigel’s studio can be used by participants as part of their assignments by arrangement if wished.

The cost of the course is £200 total and will include drinks as well as tuition. The cost is payable in advance and non-refundable.

You can have a conversation with Nigel if you want more clarity or have any questions by calling him on 07534 981220 or emailing nigelwalkerphoto@gmail.com and arranging a Zoom call at a convenient time.
